Work flow through a production process, in order to be efficient and to maximize productivity, must be tightly scheduled and controlled. Otherwise, either work does not get into the production pipeline or slack or unproductive time develops within the process. Either condition may increase costs to the detriment of profits and customer satisfactionwhich also affects profits in the long term.
