Issues common to all Supervisory positions

Every job description for a manager or supervisor must outline in exacting detail the full scope of the duties, responsibilities, authorities, accountabilities, reporting relationships and measure of performance. These are detailed in terms of scope and extent, rather than in terms of how to do the tasks, because it is assumed that the personnel selected or hired to fill the various managerial and supervisory positions are technically competent and knowledgeable in their particular fields. For this reason, many job descriptions will also detail the qualifications required in the individual who might be selected or hired to fill that particular position.
