The Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the courts have uniformly agreed that harassment is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Harassment In addition to sexual harassment, other types of harassment have been found to violate the law. Harassment of employees on the basis of age has been found to violate the Age Discrimination and Employment Act (ADEA). Employees who are harassed because of their disabilities may have a claim under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). The Civil Rights Act of 1991 makes it illegal to racially harass an employee. Also, many states have statutues and case law that make different types of harassment illegal.
